Rion Paige

Rion Paige is a 13 year old American singer from Jacksonville, Florida who inherits a superb voice which keeps everyone aghast. She is a country singer and being 13 years old her vocal talents seem to exceed that of those of her age. If you happen to listen to Rion’s voice through a radio not knowing how old she is, you probably will never notice that she is such a young singer. Rion auditioned for the X-factor which aired on Fox and her talent came to be witnessed by the whole world. She first sang “Blown Away” by Carrie Underwood impressing the judges with her stunning voice and excellent confidence. She got four yeses from the panel of judges and judge Simon Cowell said that she actually resembles Carrie Underwood and reminded him of the first day Underwood sang at auditions in American Idol.
Yet what is so great about this little girl is that she is suffering from a rare disability. She has a rare case of arthrogryposis multiplex congentia. If you have no idea what this disability is; it is a condition which leaves permanent damage to your arms resulting in both arms being fixed at one position. She is also blind in her right eye from glaucoma. Rion can barely take the microphone into her hands and sing. She cannot move her hands or do any gestures from them while being on stage; yet she captures the audience solely through her voice.
Rion sang a song by Rascal Flatts titled “I Won’t Let Go” which impressed judge Demi Lovato and Rion was selected to go on live shows. Rion was later selected for the top 12. She was tactful enough to make adjustments in her performances even though it was a tough job for a girl like her. She sang John Anderson’s “Swinging” while moving around the stage instead of standing in front of the microphone which she normally does. As Rion sang “Glass” by Thompson Square, it brought judge Demi Lovato to tears. She was eliminated from the show ending up in the bottom 2 for two consecutive weeks on December 5th 2013.
She is an adorable girl with beautiful curly golden blond hair. Her mother says; “Rion didn’t walk until she was 2 years old because it was difficult for her to get up straight without using her hands. But when she did, she ran across the room.” She further added smiling, “That was Rion. Nothing has held her back in any way.”
Rion has an amazing aura about her. She is talent itself. Once can look at her and pity her and say sympathetic things about her disability. Yet what we ought to see in her is her courage to stand strong, her determination to light up the whole world through her wonderful voice and her strength to tell the world about her talents. We lose things in our life and we cry over them saying our entire life is going to end because of those things we have lost. And at times like that we think that we would rather hide in some dark cave where there is no light or life. But still there are people like Rion Paige out there who have strong hearts which make them go out into the world throwing away all the sorrow and unhappiness to embrace a bright future. We all have different talents. Some might be able to sing beautifully, some good in arts and painting and some to write great literary works. Rion has found her talent and she has figured out a way to come up into the world which many of us don’t do. Rion is already in the public eye, not ashamed of what she is which is inspiring. We can learn from her. The whole world can learn from this little 13 year old adorable girl.

I am a family support specialist and work with a 3 year old Native American girl in Ashland Montana with the same disability. I would like to share Rion’ s story and music with Maria to give her hope and inspiration. Anything you can share for her would be appreciated.

I just happen to come across this young lady by mistake just looking at singers on YouTube. My first impression of her came to me before she even sang. The way she came on stage, that smile on her face, that authentic, genuine, whole hearted full of love and joy in her face just lit up my heart. I am so proud of her. I will be looking for CD to purchase here in Alabama USA. Thank You.
